v1.0.3

Findable, and a plainer route to the privacy policy

  • When you search for Mathturion on Google or another search engine, the links it lists are now more likely to lead to the puzzles and information pages, and not to sign-in or password pages. The site now tells search engines which of its pages are worth listing, and gives them a list of its public pages and of the puzzles anyone can play without an account.
  • The privacy policy is now reachable by name from the foot of every page, instead of from an unlabelled icon.
  • The release-notes page now states the version it is describing at the top.
  • Each page now has a single web address. The address of the privacy and terms page, and of these release notes, used to change depending on which page you opened them from; now it does not, so a link you copy is the same every time, and shorter.
  • The layout of the sign-in, account and contact pages has been adjusted.
  • When you solve The Mystery in the Masterpiece, the win screen now shows you the engraving the puzzle is drawn from — Albrecht Dürer's Melencolia I of 1514 — with a short note about the square hidden in it and a link to read more.
v1.0.2

Preparing for advertising

  • Groundwork for advertising. This release does not switch advertising on — it adds the ability to, and the commitments that go with it: members do not see ads while their membership is active, and in the UK and the EEA you are asked before any advertising cookie is set.
  • The spaces set aside for advertising now stay blank until there is something to put in them, rather than showing an outlined empty box. The strip at the foot of the page is not reserved at all while there is nothing to fill it, so the page keeps that room.
  • The space set aside for an advert is now a share of the screen rather than a fixed height, so it is in proportion on a small phone and on a tablet alike. On a tablet held upright — the one page shape where the strip along the bottom is the only place an advert can go — that is roughly twice the room it had before.
  • A Contact Us page, reachable from the menu at the top of every page, from the foot of every page, and from the account and payment pages that ask you to get in touch.
  • On narrower screens — including tablets held upright — the menu at the top of the page now folds into the ☰ button, which it previously did only on phones. That also fixes a menu that could run onto a second line and cover the top of the page.
